Butch
Evans grew up an Air Force Brat. He finished High School at Friendship
High School, in a small town called Wolfforth, just outside an Air Force
Base. Graduating 4th out of 128 students, his plans, at graduation
were to
attend Texas Tech University to complete a pre-med degree. Following
a year
of school, he decided college was not the way to go. He was married in 1987
to Toni and now has 4 children (all boys) ranging from age 4 to 18.
Following his marriage, he decided to attend a 2 year college, and completed
an Associate of Science in Electrical Engineering degree.
Butch joined the US Army just after college and spent 3 1/2 years as a radio
repairman. In 1991, he started working at Shelton Business Machines
where
he began learning about networks. Just after he started working for
SBM,
they started an ISP. Butch, though he knew nothing about networking
or unix, built a server and figured out how to set up their Cisco router and
make the server communicate on the network. He was HOOKED! In
a short
time, Butch became more familiar with the unix he was using (FreeBSD), and
was the defacto "expert" at SBM. He wore the title of
Network Admin until
SBM sold their Internet Business in 1999. By that time, he had earned
a
part ownership in the company.
In 2000, he began a partnership with BPS Telephone Company in forming BPS
Networks. BPS Networks began by providing dialup and DSL
internet access.
In 2001, BPS began providing wireless internet access in one of the
surrounding towns. This experiment proved successful, and BPS now has
coverage over more than 1500 square miles in the Bootheel region of
Southeast Missouri.
