Michael
F. Young was the Founder of Young
Design, Inc, which later became YDI Wireless (now DBA Terabeam Wireless) when
the company went public in 2003. While with the company, he was President and
Chief Technical Officer. YDI focused on equipment and systems that operate in
the license-free radio bands. He has over 25 years experience in both radio
and data communications with extensive practical knowledge of high speed
Wireless LANs and license-free Internet Access systems and equipment. As CTO
of YDI Wireless, he kept abreast of the latest technology and worked closely
with engineering and led the development of new products and systems for
license-free radio bands that served customer needs. As an inventor, he also
holds a patent for a multi-channel communications system and has other patents
pending for current YDI products. Mr. Young is widely considered as one of the
leading experts in wireless data communications. He was the inventor and
innovator of many license-free radio products, some of which have
revolutionized how customers access the Internet.
He
is one of the industry’s most prolific publishers of White Papers and
articles on license-free wireless data systems. Besides supervising many field
tests, he has also assisted many customers with designing, installation,
testing and debugging of their wireless systems. Mr. Young’s reputation drew
hundreds of people to his training sessions each month, and has been a popular
guest speaker at industry trade shows and conferences. Many regard him a
leader and visionary in the high-speed license-free wireless industry.
He
also pioneered the use of 2.4 GHz amplifiers and high-gain antennas to
maximize the range for outdoor Wireless LANs. Under his direction, YDI
deployed the first 2.4 GHz 802.11 Spread Spectrum Wireless Internet
Point-of-Presence (WIPOP) in the Washington DC area in 1998.
Mr.
Young holds a BS degree in Electrical Engineering from Polytechnic Institute
of Brooklyn and a Masters Degree in Broadcasting from Brooklyn College. During
his 4-year military service in the US Army Signal Corp, he attained the rank
of Captain. For many years, Mr. Young has also been an Adjunct Lecturer at
several colleges and universities teaching computer programming, math, and
telecommunications courses. He has help a General Radio Telephone Operator
License for over 32 years and has been Amateur Radio Operator since 1967. He
is also an active pilot and holds a commercial pilot’s license as well as
being a Certified Flight Instructor and Instrument Flight instructor.
Since
leaving YDI Wireless in the summer of 2004, Mr. Young has been an independent
consultant
