Robert
Cannon is Senior Counsel for Internet Issues in the FCC's Office of Plans and
Policy. Prior to this position, he was Deputy Director of the FCC's Y2K Task
Force. He is also the Founder and Director of the Washington Internet Project www.cybertelecom.org,
a pro-bono project dedicated to promoting awareness of and participation in
federal regulatory developments that affect the Internet. Robert moderates the
Cybertelecom-l listserv and edits the e-newsletter Cybertelecom News.
His article on the Communications Decency Act was published in the Federal
Communications Law Journal, cited before the Supreme Court in Reno v. ACLU, and
republished in an anthology on the First Amendment. His article on the FCC's
Computer Inquiries was published in Catholic University's Law Journal Commlaw
Conspectus and published in the TPRC 2000 Anthology. His paper on ENUM was
published in the TPRC 2001 Anthology. He is currently writing a book on Federal
Internet law and initiatives.
Robert is the Program Chair for the 2003 Telecommunications Policy Research
Conference. Recently, he was Legal Columnist for Boardwatch Magazine. He has
spoken at numerous Internet conferences. He was the creator and co-chair of
the Federal Communication Bar Association's Online Communications Committee. He
has received several awards for his work including a Presidential Award for Y2K
effort. In 1993, he completed a judicial clerkship with Judge Steffen Graae in
D.C. Superior Court.
