  About Us
   Testimonials
"The presentations were excellent. Two individual WISPs, with divergent solutions presented different business models. It was refreshing to finally attend a seminar which provided real world experience."

"The seminar was amazing and taught me more in eight hours than I have learned in the last six months. Furthermore, Michael's philosophy meshes very neatly with our company's culture, and this also made his presentation and style extremely relevant for me. Thank you very much for this fantastic learning opportunity."

Wireless Fundamentals

The second day of the boot camp will bring you all up to speed on the fundamentals of wireless technologies and how they work. Plugging in a CAT5 cable is a lot different than establishing a wireless link.

Using license-free radio bands for profit or pleasure - WISPs can learn to set up their own Wireless Internet to offer fixed and mobile high-speed Wireless Internet services. Learn why Wireless technology is better than DSL and Cable modem services, but completely bypasses the local Telco's and Cable franchises.

This is a basic technical presentation geared towards ISPs, WISPs, Internet and networking managers, who want more details about the License Exempt radio bands as a means to offer high-speed Wireless Internet access but have little or no "radio" experience or knowledge. This presentation is tailored for Wireless Internet Service Providers (WISPs) and a must for ISPs thinking of adding Wireless to their current offerings. Sure you can learn everything in this presentation on your own (in a year or two), but we're here to get you all that information so you can begin your Wireless deployments NEXT WEEK.

Today's presentation provides the basic technical overview of the requirements of successful deployment of the License Exempt systems using the 2.4 GHz band and the 5.8 GHz band. Attendees will learn the capabilities and limitations of the equipment as well as the radio basics of WLAN (Wireless Local Area Network) and how to deploy it successfully. Topic sections include:

  • License Exempt radio frequencies
  • Technical definitions (dB, EIRP, LOS, nLOS, etc.)
  • The Spread Spectrum (FHSS, DSSS, and OFDM)
  • How radios communicate to each other
  • Amplifiers: How they work, when to use them and when not to
  • Basic antenna fundamentals
  • System Operating Margins (SOM) and expected ranges
  • Wireless Internet Point of Presence (WiPOP) overview
  • 2.4 GHz radio options
  • Basic configurations and antenna selections
  • Client Premise Equipment (CPE) options for all bands
  • Bridging, Routing, Access Point operations (what's best for you)
  • Bandwidth Control
  • 5.2/5.8 GHz radio options
  • 900 MHz radio options
  • Combining all three radio options
  • Interference mitigation and troubleshooting
  • Wireless - Tips and Tricks
  • What works and what doesn't
  • FCC Rules
  • Student question and answer period
The presentation will also discuss a great many deployment options and configuration designed specifically for individual students. There is no need for any prerequisite wireless knowledge or training. Attendees will get all that from this presentation.

The class is limited in size to the first 100 registrants. PLEASE REGISTER AS EARLY AS YOU POSSIBLY CAN.
